The TM GALAXY (formerly TM5) is an eternal kinetic art composition that transcends time by uniting contemporary design with the authentic traditions of Swiss timekeeping.
The rhythmic oscillation of the pendulum, exposed components of the skeletonized clock mechanism, and the sheer size of the piece measuring 1.25 x 1.25 meters converge to create a work of art with a powerful presence: its intricate design and constant motion deliver adroit, ever-changing artistry as the elegant wheels turn in time to the swings of the pendulum.
Complementing this hypnotic sway is the steady movement of the oversized wheel and anchor beam of Schlumpf’s patented Orbital DriveTM system.
Choose to have the TM GALAXY display, minutes, hours, and day of the week with magnetically positioned pointers. Or, move beyond precision by completely removing any indication of time to invoke timeless admiration, thereby revealing the TM GALAXY in its purest form.
While the modern architecture of the piece immediately draws the observer in by creating a mechanical and restlessly changing image, the soothing acoustics of endless ticks and tocks enhance the connection with time.
The isochronal sounds of the clock are the focus as the balance of the complex machine is otherwise virtually silent thanks to an almost noiseless motor periodically winding the springs that drive the machine and an escapement using spring-like anchor pallets, which produce smooth, virtually inaudible transitions.

THE CREATOR
Florian’s career path began when he graduated from Lucerne’s art school
in 1980 as a sculptor. After traveling the world for two years on a self-made motorcycle, he decided to further his education in the field of mechanics and attended Zentralschweizer Technikum in Lucerne, earning a diploma in mechanical engineering in 1988.
«Every innovative product I developed in my life arose from a problem for which no solution existed», Schlumpf explains. One innovation was derived from a personal experience. «When I climbed a steep mountain pass with my old bicycle and was forced to dismount because there were no gears low enough for pedaling all the way, I suddenly had the idea for the «mountain drive» bottom-bracket gearing system.
Ten years later, Schlumpf developed a hub for unicycles, which is used by the world’s top unicyclists in races to reach speeds of 40 km/h and more, as well as unicycles for daily commuting. In 2011, the patents and production rights of the bicycle gearing system were acquired by a German group, opening the door to new opportunities for Schlumpf to ex- explore new fields of interest in clocks and precision mechanisms. The first Time Machine, the TM1, was introduced at BaselWorld in 2014 as a purely artistic experience with no indication for time.

Orbital Drive™
This patented mechanism provides a steady rotation of the wheelwork, while the anchor wheel only is in a „stop-and-go“ mode. During rotation, energy flows from the wheelwork into the small sunwheel on the anchor beam, which contains a spiral spring, and accelerates the anchor wheel periodically. The steady motion leads not only to a powerful and wide pendulum swing, but also to a very economical operational mode.
Schlumpf Tooth Profile
Based on a Wildhaber-Novikov toothing, Schlumpf uses self-lubricating bronze bushings on hardened and high-polished pins.
This reduces friction to the absolute minimum.
Clockwork Drive
The TM5 runs with the energy contained in a „sixpack“ of spiral spring housings, wound from time to time with a tiny electric motor.
The tension of the springs regulates the turning-on of the motor and stops it if the springs are fully wound-up.
The TM5 is delivered with an external 110-230V power adapter to drive the internal 12V micro motor.
Spring loaded anchor pallets
The patented spring-loaded anchor pallets is one more important design innovation.
While hitting the anchor pin, the pallets do not destroy all the energy during the impact but conserve the driving force through a smooth tensioning of the pallets, which are made of a high-tech spring steel.
3D FRAME ALPINE PEAK
Inspired by the stunning view from our factory to the peaks of the Swiss Alps, we have built an equally stunning frame, milled from a single piece of Aluminum.
The finishes 010, 020, 030, and 040 are available as well as the colors black, grey, gold, and alu-raw.
